Radio City Music Hall Radio City Music Hall first opens its doors to the public in midtown Manhattan on December 27th, 1932 in Rockefeller Center. Known as the Music Hall when it first opened, The world famous Rockettes have been performing the traditional "Radio City Christmas Spectacular" on the Great Stage for over 70 years. The Great Stage is the largest indoor theater in the world, and possesses a resemblance to the sun setting, and was actually designed with a system of advanced hydraulic elevators that were so impressive, the United States Navy borrowed this technology to use on aircraft carriers. While this technology was ahead of it time, it shouldn't be surprising since it was developed by the John D. Rockefeller. The interior is a whole city block in length. It measures 160 feet from the back of the auditorium to the stage and the top of the ceiling climbs all the way up to 84 feet. In October of 1999, an extensive refurbishment project was completed to bring back the original atmosphere of when it first opened its doors in 1932. No trip to the Big Apple is complete without stopping by Rockefeller Center and taking a tour of the world-renowned Radio City Music Hall. Location and hours of operation: Radio City Musical Hall is located at 1260 Avenue of the Americas in Rockefeller Center, New York City. Tours are available Monday-Sunday from 11:00am to 3:00pm
